Do Something ONE-derful!
Rehab is calling on people to support its first national fundraising appeal 1 Day for Rehab on Sunday June 20th
Press Release
Wednesday 12th May
Today, Wednesday 12th May, Rehab launched a nationwide call to people across the country to come together on Sunday June 20th and be part of its first national fundraising appeal, 1 Day for Rehab. Rehab is asking everyone to do something ONE-derful and raise much-needed funds for Rehab’s services nationwide, while enjoying themselves and getting involved in their community at the same time.
All over Ireland, events are planned on 1 Day to promote community participation and the involvement of people of all ages. Events already taking place include treasure hunts, family days, sports challenges, coffee mornings and raffles - but the limit is our imagination! Everyone can participate: log on to www.1dayforrehab.ie to find out more and register involvement.
Each year, Rehab helps over 7,500 people in Ireland to live their lives and realise their aspirations, learn new skills and play a full part in their community. Funds raised on 1 Day for Rehab on June 20th will support its vital services which provide respite care, community resource centres, training, education and residential services to children and adults with disabilities all over Ireland. The funds raised locally on 1 Day for Rehab will go directly to the local Rehab service in that community.
One of the key initiatives taking place as part of this inaugural fundraising appeal is the 1 Day Lunch. Sharing a lunch is a wonderful way to get to know your neighbours and friends better, and lunches – picnics, barbecues, casual or gourmet events – can take place among families, friends, neighbours and colleagues in homes, back gardens, community centres, staff canteens, estates and neighbourhoods. Lunch hosts can register at www.1dayforrehab.ie to receive their fundraising lunch packs, including posters, balloons, invitations, and recipes from some of Ireland’s top chefs.
Speaking in advance of the launch of the event, Pauline Crowley, Head of Fundraising at Rehab, said, “1 Day for Rehab is about recognising that Rehab is here every day, 365 days a year, supporting people in their local communities and we are asking the public to support us in return on 1 Day for Rehab. The aim is to raise awareness of the work that Rehab does and to generate valuable funds for our services to people with disabilities and others who are marginalised. A key part of the day is also celebrating our communities, who we are and being inclusive of everyone in our society.”
Rehab works in over 125 locations across Ireland, with 2,500 staff members nationwide helping people to live their lives the way they choose, through resource and training centres, residential and supported accommodation services and in respite care, outreach and home-based services. Rehab urgently needs funds that will be raised on 1 Day for Rehab to support the continued development of its high-quality services in local areas across the country.
The generosity of Irish people is legendary and now, more than ever, people are seeking out opportunities to volunteer their time and support the work of charities. Rehab hopes that on 1 Day people will seize this wonderful opportunity to get involved in their community and have some fun with family, neighbours, friends and colleagues. Who could say no to that?
