Rehab Services in Monaghan

In Monaghan, Rehab provides services to over 90 people with disabilities in through its divisions RehabCare and National Learning Network at four locations in the county.

Rehab is a leading non-governmental organisation which works towards a world where every person has the opportunity to achieve their potential Rehab provides high-quality health and social care, training and education, and rehabilitation, employment and commercial services in Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands and Poland. The people who currently use Rehab services include young people and adults with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, people with mental health difficulties, people with autism and people with an acquired brain injury. A range of essential services is also provided to older people, carers and others who are marginalised. Every year, more than 50,000 people and their families benefit from the supports provided by Rehab in over 250 locations.

In partnership with the Health Service Executive, RehabCare provides a wide range of high-quality person-centred services. The resource centre and day service at Tirkeenan offers such programmes as independent living, life skills, and a variety of social and sporting activities to 36 people, who can also avail of a preparation for work programme called Workability.

RehabCare’s services in Monaghan also include a supported accommodation for four adults with a learning disability and a home support service for 15 individuals in the locality who may require assistance with activities of daily living such as personal care, household tasks or social and leisure activities.

National Learning Network provides training funded by FÁS and the Health Service Executive (HSE) for persons out of work through accident, illness or disability. The centre in Monaghan currently caters for 42 students from throughout the county and provides vocational and rehabilitative training.

Courses offered include two funded by FÁS – Employer-Based Training, which combines on-the-job and in-centre training in a skill area of the student’s choice, and Fresh Start, which caters for individuals looking to start a new career after a period out of the workforce and includes personal development, career planning, IT and work experience elements.  The centre also offers the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) which is a highly regarded IT skills certification programme.

HSE-funded programmes include Access, which focuses on educational and social skills acquisition through core modules, IT by Blended Learning which is a flexible course that enables students who cannot access a training centre to gain an information technology qualification from their own home and Turas, which facilitates the development of personal and social skills and community integration.
