Rehab Services in Carlow
Rehab provides services to 57 people with disabilities in Carlow through its divisions RehabCare and National Learning Network. Rehab is a leading non-governmental organisation which works towards a world where every person has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Rehab provides high-quality health and social care, training and education, and rehabilitation, employment and commercial services in Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands and Poland. The people who currently use Rehab services include young people and adults with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, people with mental health difficulties, people with autism and people with an acquired brain injury. A range of essential services is also provided to older people, carers and others who are marginalised. Every year, more than 50,000 people and their families benefit from the supports provided by Rehab in over 250 locations.
In partnership with the Health Service Executive, RehabCare provides a wide range of high-quality person-centred services. In the Graiguecullen area of Carlow town, a resource centre and day service offers such programmes such as, community integration, personal development, independent living skills including self-care and cookery, and social and leisure activities including art and craft for 33 people. The centre also offers opportunities for employment and preparation for employment according to individual’s choices and abilities.
National Learning Network, in partnership with FÁS and the Health Service Executive (HSE), provides full-time rehabilitative and employment training courses for persons with additional support needs due to accident, illness or disability.
The centre in Carlow currently has 24 places for people from throughout the county to partake in vocational and rehabilitative training. In 2011, 27 people took part in courses. Courses offered include Employer-Based Training, which combines on-the-job and in-centre training in a skill area of the student’s choice, and Rehabilitative Training, which aims to provide students with the skills, knowledge and resources to access employment, further training and other options in their community.
