What Happened Last Year

2010 saw the launch of the very first 1 Day for Rehab, Rehab group's national fundraising day. The idea behind 1 Day for Rehab was to create an opportunity for people to do whatever they wanted to support Rehab, an opportunity to try something they've always wanted to do, and raise some money for a good cause while they're at it.

Thanks to the support and efforts of thousands of you across Ireland, we managed to raise over €250,000 – money which allowed us to extend the reach of our activities and continue helping people across Ireland.

There were BBQs and cake sales, dog walks and a 24hour scubathon, cycling races and raffles, treasure hunts and mountain climbing, someone even gave up chicken for a week – must have loved chicken! Thank you for all of your support in 2010 and we hope that you enjoy supporting us again this year.

– The team in Tralee have been saving for the past 2-3 years to do up the kitchen at their facility.

The money raised from 1 Day for Rehab in 2010 will finally allow them to install the new kitchen. Renovation is due to start in June/July and the aim is to have it completed by September 2011.

Dun Laoghaire Treasure Hunt and Lunch

Treasure Map

Amount raised: €2,197
How money is being spent
– The money was used to part fund a building project in the Dun Laoghaire Resource centre which made it much more wheelchair accessible. The lift doors and front were automated to allow for greater independence for wheel chair users; previously these had to be opened and held by staff. An accessible fire exit was also constructed for health and safety reasons. Wheelchair access was created to an outdoor garden patio area that previously was inaccessible to wheelchairs and therefore completely under utilized - this involved the removal of a doorway and the installation of a wider door in its place.

– Gym Equipment for the college.
"I want to say a huge big thank you for all the gym equipment that we were able to get with the money from the fundraiser. The gym looks brilliant, you should come take a look, and we bought a new piece of weight equipment. There are loads of exercises you can do on it the students love it and we were able to get a new bench. The weights room has been newly painted as well so that really finished it off. We also got new goalposts and football kit for the students as these were badly needed and always in use. Again a big thank you - it was badly needed and much appreciated."

Concert & Raffle in Manorhamilton

Music notes

Amount raised: €1,761
How money is being spent
– Our plan is to take the students on an overnight stay at the shared holiday village; 50% of costs would be covered by Rehab and the students would pay the other 50%.  We also plan to spend a portion of the money on costumes for this year production of the Wizard of Oz; as a number of our students have hearing difficulties and cannot speak, the colour and vibrancy of their show is very important to them as it helps them express themselves through the visual nature of their performance.

Coffee Morning in Bray & Arklow NLN

Coffee cup

Amount raised: €4,480
How money is being spent
– Both Bray and Arklow raised over 2k each. Bray are spending the funds on ceiling mounted projectors for two of their classrooms.  The fixed projectors will make instruction easier as they can be linked to PC's/internet (to review the top news stories, watch course related DVD's, allow the learners to present their work etc.)

Arklow are also investing in a projector and in addition have purchased two digital cameras and a Wii.  The digital cameras will be used for project work and to teach learners how to transfer photos on to their PCs and memory stick for printing etc.  The Wii will be used for fitness and aerobic sessions, for improving social skills and to introduce older learners to new technologies.
